$15K boost for pistol club

Gympie Pistol Club’s new shade structure is on target to be complete this week, with funding provided through the Stronger Communities Programme, Wide Bay MP Llew O’Brien announced.

“The Gympie Pistol Club is growing rapidly and the facilities were in need of an upgrade to ensure the safety and comfort of recreational shooters, so this grant is helping to provide a new firing line and shelter to enable club members to practice their sport in safety and comfort,” Mr O’Brien said.

The $15,000 grant contributed to the club’s $45,000 upgrade, which included a 25-metre concrete slab for the firing line and large roof structure to provide shelter from sun and rain, with the remaining $30,000 provided by the Gympie Pistol Club.

“More than 225 club members will now be able to enjoy an increased range of activities, and upgrade means the range is now at a high enough standard that it could be used for formal firearms training by groups such as the Queensland Police Service,” Mr O’Brien said.
