James Nash Dux announced

James Nash SHS would like to extend a huge congratulations to recent graduate Ethan Kropp, who has been awarded the James Nash Overall Academic Dux for 2023 and the TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Scholarship program Merit Certificate for 2024.

Ethan worked extremely hard in all his senior schooling subjects as well as doing an outstanding job as one of our 2023 School Captains. Ethan’s academic studies included Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, English and Music which all involve a heavy workload.

Ethan achieved our highest ATAR score yet in the new system with an ATAR score of 98.85% which is equivalent to an OP 1 in the old system.

This result came on top of Ethan’s accelerated learning program at James Nash where he skipped Year 10 and went straight from Year 9 to Year 11.

Ethan is now studying a dual degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland.

Along with being recognised as the 2023 Dux, Ethan has also been awarded a TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Scholarship Program Merit Certificate. The TJ Ryan

Memorial Medal and Scholarships represent a long-standing tradition of recognising educational achievement in Queensland.

The award is a memorial to Thomas Joseph Ryan, former teacher, barrister and Queensland Premier (1915-1919) and seeks to acknowledge students who demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities within their school and broader community as well as academic excellence though their achievements in Year 12 to undertake tertiary studies.

Each year Education Qld awards 35 Year 12 Graduates with scholarships, high commendation certificates or certificates of merit for the TJ Ryan Award. For Ethan to be one of 35 to be recognised for this award out of 53 168 Year 12 graduates in 2023, this is another outstanding achievement.

James Nash would like to recognise Ethan’s exceptional dedication to his academic success and congratulate him on these huge achievements. Ethan celebrated his success recently with his parents, fellow 2023 graduates and members of the Executive and Senior Schooling Team at Kingston House. Ethan and his parents spoke about their gratitude to James Nash Staff for the enormous support provided to Ethan during his time at Nash.
