Good to read the letters from Merv Welch and Ashley Goldsworthy decrying Gympie Council’s decision to no longer fluoridate its water supply.
After the first vote was held on this issue, I rang my local councillor, Gordon Maudsley, and asked why he’d ignored medical and dental advice to vote for this action.
He seemed to think upgrading the water treatment plant and saving money were higher priorities, but admitted that he and his wife had given their own children fluoride tablets.
Since Mayor Hartwig didn’t appear on the ABC’s 7.30 report, his reasons for promoting this decision remain unclear.
Why should there be a choice between water fluoridation and upgrading the water treatment plant?
Surely both are important public health issues.
Dolly Jensen is one of the few independent thinkers on this council, as most of the others tend to just support mayoral policy.
Sadly, certain decisions of the body politic in Australia have been influenced by the Trumpian Ratbaggery infecting American health policy.
Science is being downgraded and informed scientific opinion disregarded.
