Community spirit thrives

Congratulations to those who organised and supported this year’s Easter on Mary Festival.

Given that it was a rainy night following probably two months of rainy days, the turnout, though noticeably smaller than usual, was testimony to the resilience of the Gympie community.

There was the accustomed array of entertainment and a wide range of street food on offer.

And, although the queues at the ice cream van were shorter than usual, the ice cream was served with good cheer and lovingly licked by children with smiling painted faces.

I got the impression that those who attended came out for a good time in a warm and generous mood.

They appeared to support the vendors well.

And I met some charming people, most but not all of them local.

These periodic street festivals enhance not only our own civic morale but they add to Gympie’s status and reputation in the minds of those visitors who participate.

Bravo to the organisers who defied the threatening conditions by staging ‘Easter on Mary‘ and a grateful cheer to all who supported it with their participation.
