Lots to learn at Camera Club

Gympie Camera Club is back after a short break and members are ready to snap their way into 2023. The Club has started off the year with a couple of great workshops, and lots more fun things to happen planned for throughout the year, helping members with their photography and to inspire them.

Bambi, one of our very own Gympie Photographers (Photography by Bambi), generously has offered to share some of her vast knowledge of photography and Photoshop/Lightroom image processing with our members. The workshop was designed by Bambi to help those members at a beginners level and above spend an enjoyable couple of hours with Bambi taking in her knowledge and having their questions answered. This opportunity was an encouraging start to the year ahead with members eager to participate in planned workshops to follow. We as a club appreciate this help that Bambi has so willingly offered to our members; it is outstanding.

Club members enjoyed our first competition night for the year with Robert Cullen from Bundaberg who is a PSQ (Photographic Society of Qld) accredited Judge who has a great love of Monochrome Photography. Robert gave his time in the early afternoon to present a workshop all about Monochrome and how to achieve the best result, explaining many different ways it can be done in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. After the workshop and a tea break of yummy food it was time to move on to the Judging of the club Competition. Subjects were “Water in Motion’’ and “Open” with prints and digitals in both categories. This presented a collection of so many different images displaying the many ways that we all see and think differently. Robert critiqued every image with positive encouraging helpful tips of improvement where needed and gave well-earned awards. He also commented on his enjoyment of viewing the photography work of club members. The afternoon and evening was filled with information, inspiration and encouragement.

The first outing of the year was spent with a walk around town capturing images and learning Camera Basics at the same time, helping beginners as well others brush up on their own camera skills. We as photographers need to know how to capture the best image in camera and how to use our cameras to have that happen. After the walk around it was back to the clubhouse to show achievements on the big screen.

The March Competition will be all about High Key Photography along with an Open section. It is a fascinating skill in photography and I’m sure there will be lots of interesting images to view. Also in March we will be enjoying a Friendship Day with Caloundra Club (now Sunshine Coast Photography Group) and Caboolture Photography Club meeting at the Wappa Dam Nambour. It will be a fun day of friendships and photography.

So here we are in 2023 and if you are looking for a fun interest to get lost in, and need to dust off that camera in the cupboard, why no come and join us in our air conditioned Clubhouse at 39 Saleyard Road (behind the woodworkers club). Our meetings are the first Tuesday and third Monday of the Month, meetings start 7.00pm SHARP. We would love to see you there.

We are there to share our love of Photography and make friendships. We are a group of people willing to learn and discovering new things in photography, happy to share our knowledge with you.

Interesting Photography Fact:

The first digital camera was invented all the way back in 1975 by Steve Sasson. Sasson was working for Kodak at the time and was ordered to keep the invention a secret. This first digital camera was only 0.01 Megapixel and weighed an incredible 8 pounds (3.6kg). It took the camera over 20 seconds to commit the image to tape.
