Good Friday not good for riders

Good Friday and the Easter break were anything but good for a host of recreational vehicle operators.

Doing up the brief’s column, motorcycle riders appeared to be overrepresented this week.

Looking at the numbers, there were six motorcycle riders, two bicyclists, a quad-bike rider, an e-bike rider, and a horsewoman taken to various hospitals between Good Friday and Easter Monday.

And that’s not counting the gyrocopter pilot airlifted on Good Friday after his aircraft crashed on K’Gari!

I’ve had my bike license since 1991 and “touch-wood” I’ve never had a serious accident.

Some might say that’s because I seldom ride, and while that might be true now, I rode almost every day for eight years when I worked for Australia Post.

Still, there have been some close calls, and often because other motorists didn’t see me.

So, look out for riders on the roads, and riders, make sure you’re seen!

It’ll save you pain, literally.
