Stephen shaves to help save others

Keen sports person and Gympie local Stephen O’May gave up the hair on his head for a cause as he participated in the Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave on Saturday, 16 March.

What is now his third year in participating in the shave, Mr O’May wants to do his part to help out in the movement’s goal to beat blood cancer.

He has a goal of raising $400 to donate to the World’s Greatest Shave by ditching his hair to aid in furthering life-saving research and support families facing blood cancer.

Mr O’May is very passionate about the cause, participating in Movember and the Relay for Life among many other events in which he stands in solidarity.

He encourages others to show their support and participate in the movement.

“Try your best, I encourage others to give it a go,” said Mr O’May.

The Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave is an Australian charity made up of patients, carers, healthcare professionals, researchers, specialists and supporters.

Their goal is to offer life-changing support, fund leading-edge research and campaign for change alongside the community for families facing blood cancer.

Residents interested can Sign up to the World’s Greatest Shave online as an individual or as part of a team then choose to Shave, Cut or Colour for the cause.

Then all that is left to do is set up the page, starting fundraising and follow through with the World’s Greatest Shave.

There to capture Stephen shave it all off was Gympie Today’s Shane Zahner.
