Register for help before it’s needed

With the memory of the disastrous flooding last year still fresh in the minds of Gympie residents and organisations, and a catastrophic fire season predicted ahead, charity organisations that help people during disasters are urged to plan ahead.

National donation platform GIVIT is urging charities that assist people experiencing hardship to ensure they are registered to access donations of essential items for the people they support, before they need it.

GIVIT partners with state and local governments to manage donations of goods and services for people impacted by disasters.

Not-for-profit platform GIVIT works directly with councils, outreach teams, charities and community groups to make sure people get exactly what they need, when they need it.

It’s private and easy to use and can provide critical and immediate support to communities affected by an emergency event or who are experiencing hardship.

GIVIT National Manager Jo Beadle said donations can include grocery and fuel vouchers as well as furniture, white goods and household essentials.

“If you are a local charity or frontline service who may be in need of donated goods and services, please register at GIVIT.org.au/need-help/organisations to access support,” said Jo.

“We are encouraging organisations to ensure they are registered with GIVIT as we head into this disaster season as part of their preparedness planning.

“This means they will be in a position to request exactly what’s needed when the time comes, and help prevent unsolicited donations moving into their region.”

“Donations can also be accessed through GIVIT for people experiencing secondary impacts of disasters including domestic and family violence, financial hardship, disability support and homelessness.”

Charities, services and community groups can register with GIVIT for free access to thousands of donations offered by generous Australians and corporate organisations.
