HomeOpinionWhat about my heritage?

What about my heritage?

Eliza Fraser was shipwrecked on Fraser Island (K’Gari) on 22 May, 1836, and was taken in by the Badtjalla people.

Why have we renamed it K’Gari when it could be Fraser Is – K’Gari?

People come from the world over to visit Fraser Island because of this history and the old history.

Sadly but surely we are being stripped of our heritage.

I was born here over 90 years ago, my ancestors came out as convicts.

Surely I am entitled to my dreamtime and history as mush as the first nation people?

Let’s be in this together with respect for one another.

I love this country.

My Uncle Paddy and my father-in-law fought in the 1914-1918 war and my father, brother-in-law and three of my cousins fought in the 1939-1945 war for the freedom we all enjoy today.

They would be horrified to think the Constitution of Australia was to be changed to benefit one group of people.

Let this great nation move forward as one people.

The education system of today is making our children feel ashamed for things that happened over 250 years ago.

Shame on you, it’s not their fault.

I went to school in Biggenden over 80 years ago.

There was no ill feeling among the children, black or white.

We all played together without fear or favour.

We were certainly taught to have pride in the country and respect the flag that our solders fought under.

Sadly I see very little of it today.

All the bitterness being generated out there is being brought on by the media kowtowing to minority groups, government with their political correctness and the wrong type of agenda.

Why aren’t we working together instead of this separation and division?

Let’s all respect each other and look after each other.
