Bowlers pick up pace as season progresses

The Winners on ANZAC Day made up of Cooloola Coast and Wide Bay Veterans players.

By Gary Holyoak

A wonderful week of bowls culminating in a fitting tribute. The week started with optimism for some and the usual expectations for others. The weather once again has been glorious and first class for bowling.

Tuesday Nominated Jackpot Pairs

Once again a good turnout and perfect weather to support some very good bowling. The pairings seemed to be very well suited.

The winners of the second round were Noel Kay and Kevin Docherty.

The winners of the day were John Prowle and Cal Baumanis.

The jackpot was not won and will roll over to next week.

Thursday Mixed Social Bowls

Another busy day with the green full. The usual social bowls was complimented with a semi final of the Mixed Pairs.

The winners of the social games was Peter Ross’s team with the highest winning margin. The semi final of the Mixed Pairs was won by Jeff Mulhall and Sue Ramsay.

Saturday

We saw two rounds of the Mixed Pairs today with one semi final and then the final in the afternoon.

A full day with some very good bowling with an interested group of spectators to support all the teams.

The overall winners of the mixed Pairs Championship were Sue Ramsay and Jeff Mulhall. Well done to them and we look forward to cheering them on when they play in the District Finals which will be held at our Club in the next couple of months.

Sunday – ANZAC Day commemorative bowls day

We had a visit to our club by the Wide Bay Veterans Club to help support our charity day of bowls.

After our service to honour our servicemen both past and present we took to the green for an afternoon of comradeship for we were supporting Legacy and good work they do for the return service people and their families. The green was overflowing and the day was very successful as all the proceeds of the day went to Legacy. We would like to thank all our members and visitors for their support and hope they are proud of the monies raised on the day.

The bowling just seems to be getting better and we look forward to the coming months when we compete against other clubs in our area. For all those wishing to try our fun sport we will be carrying on with our barefoot bowls and our Scroungers soon. So contact the club for more details. Most information can be found on our website or phone on 54864836.

See you all soon
