Firm market starting to climb

Sullivan Livestock yarded 1980 cattle at their Gympie Cattle Sale held Monday 20 May, where the market for all descriptions being firm to dearer.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubberra, Mt Perr, Childers, Gin Gin, Maryborough, Tansey, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Conondale, Maleny and all local areas.

Heavy Charbray feeder steers from the Collyer Family made $3.22 to return ($1,567 and $1,553).

Droughtmaster steers from Mundubberra made $3.18 to return $1,532 and $1,479.

Droughtmaster x steers from Netherby made $3.16 ($1,540) and $3.22 ($1,419) and their lighter brothers $3.38 ($1,294 and $1,184). Charbray steers from the Henderson Family, Eumundi made $3.52 to return $1,540, $1,470, $1,256 and $1,246.

Quality Charbray weaner steers from Emjay Charbray made $3.76 ($1,029).

Santa x weaner steers from Holly Dawson, Kilkivan sold for $3.82 to return ($1,019).

Charolais x steers from Fred Roberts, Sandy Creek made $3.88 ($1,037).

The Davies Family, Kilkivan sold Charolais x steers for $3.84 ($1,004).

Weaner steers generally sold from $3.30 to $3.80 pending quality and weight.

Feeder heifers topped at $2.68 but generally sold from $2.30 to $2.65.

Weaner heifers sold from $2.00 to $2.44.

Next Meatworks and Store Sale is on Monday 3 June.

Murgon Report 14/05/2024

Numbers totalled 450 in Murgon on Tuesday, 14 May. All descriptions remained reasonably firm.

Export cattle showed some promise with increases in places as did better feeder types. Better quality weaner steers sold strongly.

Lighter weaner heifers were still hard to place.

Heavy Bulls sold to $2.52 per kilogram and $1980.00.

Heavy Cows over 500 kg sold to $2.38 per kilogram and $1520.00.

Cows 400 to 500 kg topped at $2.36 per kilogram for $1130.00.

No lighter Cows under 400 kg were yarded.

Export heifers sold to $2.84 per kilogram for $1820.00.

Cattle were drawn from Gayndah, Mt Perry, Durong, Nanango, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and locally.

Local Charolais cross steers 400 kg sold to $3.26 c/kg to return $1300.00.

2 pens of Brangus and Speckled Park steers ex Durong sold for $3.46 c/kg averaging 392 kg and $1360.00.

Local Santa steers 343 kg also sold for $3.46 c/kg and $1190.00.

303 kg Santa cross steers from Johnstown sold to $1040.00 at $3.42 c/kg.

Charolais cross weaner steers from Nanango sold to $3.44 c/kg and $790.00.

2 pens of Simmental cross weaner steers from Gayndah sold for $3.40 c/kg to return $1065.00 and $838.00.

2 Pens of Santa cross Heifers from Wooroolin sold to $2.84 c/kg returning $1335.00 and $1230.00.

Santa cross heifers from Windera sold for $2.40 c/kg for $760.00.

Simmental cross weaner heifers from Tingoora sold for $552.00 and $2.44 c/kg.

A small Number of Cows and Calves sold to $1025.00.

The next Murgon Sale will be on Tuesday the 28th of May at 8am.
