Market remains firm

Sullivan Livestock yarded 1673 good quality cattle at its Gympie Cattle Sale on Monday 14 February, where the market remained very firm for all descriptions.

Cattle were drawn from Gayndah, Booubyjan, Brooweena, Woolooga, Tansey, Kilkivan, Maryborough, Tiaro, Conondale, Kenilworth and all local areas.

Santa steers from SN, IV & D Gear, Imbil sold to a top of $5.84 to return $2,987, $2,707, $2,849 & $2,699. Charbray & Simmental x steers from N & L Ensbey, Kandanga sold to a top of $5.84 to average $2,970. Limousin x steers from RMK Dealings Tiaro sold for $5.80 ($2,665 & $2,545). Simmental x & Brangus steers from E Pretorius made $6.18 ($2,599) & $6.28 ($2,697). Santa x steers from D & S Sallaway, Crownthorpe made $6.58 ($2,629) & $7.94 ($2,312). Droughtmaster steers from Tarangau Station, Coondoo sold for $8.06 ($2,101 & $1,839). Simmental x weaner steers from J & H McMillan “Nargoon” Cinnabar made $8.44 ($2,021). S & J English Charbray steers made the same money $8.44 ($2,087). Generally weaner steers sold from $7.00 to $8.50.

Limousin x heifers from Barry Hiron, Sexton sold for $6.24 ($2,028). Droughtmaster heifers from Glastonbury made $7 ($2,148). Droughtmaster heifers from J & P Mooney sold for $6.62 ($2,284). High Grade Brahman heifers from Mrs Kirk “Yenda” Gayndah made $7.64 ($2,063 & $1,943). Generally, feeder heifers sold from $5 to $6.15 pending quality & breed. Weaner heifers sold from $6.20 to $7.52.

Cows & Calves topped at $3,650 generally selling from $2,800 to $3,500.

Murgon

1050 were yarded on 8 February in Murgon for the fortnightly sale. The market was extremely dear for all descriptions. The benefits of an early start to the summer season are now evident with cattle really starting to weigh. Heavy bulls sold to $3.98 per kilogram and $3460.00. Heavy cows over 500 kilograms topped at $4.03 per kilogram and $2730.00. Cows 400 to 500 kg sold to $3.88 per kilogram for $1880.00. Cows under 400 kg topped at $3.63 for an average of $3.27 per kilogram. Export heifers sold to $5.01 per kilogram and $2620.00. Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Biggenden, Mt Perry, Kingaroy, Nanango, Proston and local areas. Charbray steers from Tansey sold for $2760.00 at $5.40c/kg. 507 kg steers from Wondai sold for $5.14 c/kg to return $2600.00. Local Belmont red steers weighing 406 kg sold for $2390.00 and $5.89 c/kg. 465 kg Droughtmaster steers from Crownthorpe sold for $2690.00 at $5.80 c/kg. Angus cross steers from Johnstown sold for $2610.00 at $5.80 c/kg and 450 kg. 475 kg Charbray steers sold for $2660.00 at $5.60 c/kg. Droughtmaster cross steers from Wondai sold for $2325.00 and $6.94 c/kg. 330 kg Brahmousin steers, 330 kg from Booubyjan sold for $$6.80 c/kg returning $2250.00. 369 kg Charolais steers from Nanango sold for $6.58 c/kg for $2430.00. Charolais cross weaner steers from Crownthorpe sold for $2257.00 at $8.68 c/kg. 167 kg Charolais cross weaner steers from Murgon sold for $9.12 c/kg and $1530.00. 522 kg heifers sold to $5.01 c/kg and $2619.00. 475 kg Angus cross heifers from Booie sold for $2708.00 at $5.70 c/kg. 400 kg Brahman cross heifers from Nanango sold for $1920.00 and $4.80 c/kg. Charolais heifers from Moffatdale weighing 333 kg sold for $2110.00 and $6.34 c/kg. Droughtmaster cross heifers from Booubyjan sold for $1995.00 at $7.00 c/kg. A draft of Braford weaner heifers from Gayndah sold for $8.00 c/kg to average $1670.00. Charbray weaner heifers from Tansey sold for $2050.00 and $7.60 c/kg. Biggenden

Burnett Livestock & Realty’s Biggenden Meatworks and Store sale on Monday 7 February saw a yarding of 1300 head, with breeder quality heifers in demand and the remainder selling to a firm market.

Cattle were drawn from Monto, Theodore, Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Lowmead, Woolooga, Curra, Miriam Vale, Hervey Bay, Yandaran, Bundaberg, Aramara and all local areas.

Brangus cows and calves from Coalstoun Lakes sold for $3850. First calf crossbred heifers from Mount Perry sold for $3850. Charbray cows and calves from Brooweena sold for $3600.

Four and six tooth Droughtmaster bullocks from Bucca sold for 435c/$3122. Four tooth Droughtmaster bullocks from Bundaberg sold for 450c/$2295. Six tooth Charbray bullocks from Hervey Bay sold for 423c/$2666.

Six tooth Droughtmaster heifers from Childers sold for 429c/$2346. Four tooth Brangus heifers from Mount Perry sold for 448c/$2431. Four tooth Charbray heifers from Gaeta sold for 440c/$3037.

Eidsvold

Just over 300 head were yarded at the Cattle Sale on Wednesday 9 February. 200kg – 400kg Steers dominated the yarding with 200 Steers selling to very strong prices. Theodore 270kg Steers sold to a high of 850c/kg to return $2290 per head and Eidsvold Red Angus X Steers weighed 352kg sold for $2531 at 718c/kg. Quality white & red Brahman PTIC cows sold to a top of $2550 per unit to average $2400 per head. Our next sale is Thursday, 24 February with the Annual Santa/Santa Infused & Special Store Sale held at Eidsvold Saleyards.
