While we haven’t focused heavily on the fuel crisis this week, plenty has been said nationally, particularly about the Federal Government’s $20 million advertising campaign urging motorists to drive less, catch public transport or carpool.
To that, I say: you first.
Canberra has long preferred a “do as I say” approach.
The rest of us might be more inclined to listen if it tried “do as I do”.
If we’re all tightening our belts, our pollies could start by loosening their grip on the Commonwealth car.
Especially those at the top.
Why send a stretch limo for one or two people when it could carry a whole cabinet?
And why fly across the country, or the world, just to open an envelope?
There’s a perfectly good video call waiting.
Because $20 million in advice feels a lot like hypocrisy when it arrives with a chauffeur and a boarding pass.
