It is a very difficult task for a member of parliament to also be a minister of the crown. Max Hodges did it extremely well long ago. Now Tony Perrett has to find time to be the Member for Gympie as well as the Minister for Agriculture.
So far, not so good.
He said that he had more than 100 emails on the “Hate-Gun Laws” legislation – all in support. Of course he had more than 100. So did every member of parliament. Organizations that support a particular viewpoint can do this easily. But I am disappointed that he missed my email. It certainly was not in favor of the restriction on freedom of speech.
People want to argue for Israel and its right to exist but not let anyone argue against it. Words and debate are how we should always try to settle conflict. Banning words will not fix anything.
So I wrote to my member. I received a reply from his office.
The reply didn’t address my concerns but that’s OK. Everyone is busy. But evidently, I wasted my time completely as Mr Perrett didn’t know that anyone was against the restriction on free speech.
Debate should be encouraged and the Country Party of old would have agreed.
