Who is responsible?

Who is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the Gympie Shire assets?

If, as I suspect, it is the engineering department, then something is seriously wrong.

It would appear that their maintenance programme is ‘ do not do anything until it is about to fall down, then we can condemn it and consign it to the dump’.

This policy appear to apply to all assets, roads, footpaths, gutters, museum gantry, shade/greenhouse, almost the civic centre.

Is this because they are not capable of maintaining these assets, or is it because they do not care?

Either way it might be time for our elected councillors to look at the qualifications of these “engineers”.

The gantry has been isolated for so long residents are not sure when the security fence was erected.

Just as an interest, who owns the security fence?

Is it Council or has it been hired?

If the later, then as a ratepayer I demand this issue be addressed, the repairs to be commenced sooner rather than later, or are those responsible waiting for it to fall down.

The rain we have experienced in the last few day highlights the engineering department’s poor work once again.

The amount of stationary water lying along the side of many roads, is a clear indication they are not conducting the required work.

Further to that many of the drains have not been constructed to a size sufficient to remove large amounts of water.

I noticed that Council was pleased to accept a pat on the back for well managed curbside lawns, thanks to the local householder.

Too bad Council are not organised enough to clear many gutters of weeds and grass which would allow a lot of water to flow freely.

These are just a couple of issues the Council needs to address to add to the comfort of the ratepayers and residents.

L. Pethick,

Gympie
