Merv Welch makes a strong case against the poor coverage on the 7.30 Report of the fluoridation issue.
The Report underlined the uninformed and irrational decision of the Council.
Unfortunately, how this issue was mishandled by the council paints Gympie as a hillbilly town, where council decisions lack logic, wide consultation, and relevant supporting evidence.
Emotion runs riot.
‘Troglodytes’ would not be too censorious a term to be applied to the decision which ignores scientific evidence of the benefits of fluoride, such as provided by the two dentists who were interviewed.
The mayor clearly does not have the intestinal fortitude or community interest to turn up.
This decision does little to enhance the reputation of either the council or Gympie.
One can only hope that those of Merv Welch’s calibre, public interest, and fortitude maintain their rage at stupid decisions such as this one.
