Untapped potential

Gabriel Laidler-Burns

“Youth are our future.”

This is a line heard over and over again, yet I find it used as a set of buzz words that certain organisations or businesses will claim to believe while they ignore the potential of our students, apprentices and young people.

The headmaster of Victory College put it well at the economic summit when he asked why hadn’t businesses come to him for skilled workers when he had more than capable students.

If you want skilled workers so bad, why are you ignoring the people working to become them?

If you want the future to be bright, why aren’t you investing in the people who can make that possible?

I know that when I leave the workforce, or this world, I want to trust that I have left it in capable hands.

Wouldn’t you?
