Closure is a bad idea

It is with angst and consternation that I write this letter.

The Gympie council has shown it to be brain-dead.

Gympie council wants to lock down Griffin Esplanade from 11pm till four in the morning citing this is to stop illegal camping.

Wow!

How inane can you get?

The campers can stop there at five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10pm (and) stay all night, so this is not curbing illegal camping.

If Cr Jess Milne, the mayor, and any other councillors agree, then they should be voted out at the next local election.

Last I knew is that we live in a democracy with the freedom of right to access, not in a communist country.

What happens if, say, at midnight, there is an emergency and the gate can not be opened until it is too late?

Also, I, and others, who do not have a four-wheel drive, like to park there in our sedans and go fishing at midnight or one or two in the morning, etc.

Our freedom of right to this will be snuffed out by a mayor and a group of councillors who do not know the meaning of our rights and of the men and women who fought and died for us to have this freedom of movement.

Democracy!

Also, I, like many others, get there at three am in the morning in spring and summer to walk our dogs and are gone by seven to beat the heat.

The council perhaps can work with park rangers to police the illegal campers and not penalise us, the lawful Cooloola people.

A lot of people, business owners, locals who I talk to, do not like you Cr Jess Milne.

We know you don’t like Rainbow Beach.

You did not even know where the surf lifesaving building was or Griffin Esplanade until you were told the location.

On Easter Monday at 4.30am there was a huge illegal bonfire blazing away, so if you cannot police incidents which have been numerous, how can you police illegal camping?

You cannot because you don’t know how to do your job.

If you go ahead with this stupid, stupid idea, I guarantee the mayor and Cr Jess Milne will incur the wrath of the voters at the next election.

Oh, and people at Rainbow are already talking and gasping at this nonsensical idea.
