What is the Gympie Regional Council (GRC) doing about building Gympie up as a destination to attract visitors to our region?
The presence of travelers and caravanners is greatly important to the local businesses.
I cannot understand why the Gympie Chamber of Commerce, has not been loud and clear about the way the GRC is destroying tourist attractions.
First the closure of the caravan park, thus denying travelers the chance to stop.
Then they refuse to accept the Music Muster area, an attraction that has been entertaining thousands of people.
By doing this they have missed an opportunity to build and improve on the work that has already been done.
While also providing a place for caravanners to stay.
Now they want to tear down the catwalk out to the headframe.
Another tourist feature gone because this council is either very lazy or incompetent.
If they are worried about a tourist falling through the walkway then simply close the walkway.
There is no need to tear it down.
One must ask the question about who is really running the council, the elected councillors, or the unelected seat polishers.
There is not a suitable area in Gympie for a small to medium size event to be presented.
This is because there are no adequate amenities.
The show society wants a small fortune to use their area.
But they are not prepared to install facilities to encourage caravanners to stay.
If the GRC continue on its destructive ways Gympie could soon disappear from the map.
