It’s disaster season and one of the disasters that affects us all is the road toll.
With the state road toll sitting at 289 on Monday, there is a very real possibility Queensland will record more than 300 fatalities on our roads this year.
And that’s not counting the thousands of other people injured, with some of those people’s lives irrevocably changed forever.
Then there are the families of the people killed and injured and the first responders and emergency personnel sent to help and that number blows out to tens of thousands of people scarred.
With Christmas just days away, a notoriously dangerous time on the roads, I plead, on behalf of all of us here at Gympie Today to please, be safe out there.
Don’t drink and drive.
Don’t drive tired.
Always wear your seatbelt.
Leave your phone alone when you’re driving.
And for Heaven’s sake, slow down!
