Mr Mayor Glen Hartwig, sir, the recent meeting with yourself, as chaired by Councillor Jess Milne failed to provide answers in relation to your council’s selection of Wes Mitchell Park.
Your response was “that a review of Factors” (which you failed to detail), concluded that Wes Mitchell Park was the best most cost-effective site.
The fact that a majority of proponents considered it the least desirable was not important and the reasoning behind this is clearly demonstrated by the failure of the council to ensure all stakeholders were aware of the survey – (such as) those without dogs, those absentee residents, and owners, those who do not subscribe to Facebook, the aged and infirm.
To further suggest that large dogs don’t exist in the area is wrong.
We witness many large breeds including labradors, greyhounds, staffies, shepherds, mastiffs, rotties, and more.
This line is clearly pursued to justify a mini dog park that is without separation for large and small dogs, and therefore it can be contained within the limited area available at minimal cost.
Again I make the point that over 95 per cent of persons (mobile or on foot) do not have a dog travelling with them, they will all be impacted by the location, its proximity to the dual-use pathways, the playground, the barbecues, the beach, the toilets, the shower, the gym, the skate park.
As if the area is not already under pressure as to adequate parking space!
I understand this part of the park was the area selected for the future expanded parking requirements.
No other sensible area exists!
The noise, smell, visual degradation, and environmental impact upon all and sundry is totally unacceptable.
It’s time to rescind this decision.
Thank you.
