Reminiscing on Pre-Muster’s revival

I probably don’t quite qualify as a long-term resident, but I do remember when not only Mary Street, but other satellite venues throbbed to the music of buskers and bands as a prelude to the main event in the Amamoor State Forest.

I thought the Pre-Muster Party was a great way to get locals into the mood for the Muster and to have Muster campers come to town and experience the festive ambience of Gympie as well as the entertainment.

As a relative newcomer I was impressed by, and greatly enjoyed, the Pre-Muster Party.

I smile at one recollection of those long-ago events.

There was a small group performing in the foyer outside Coles in Goldfields Plaza.

I thought they sounded pretty good.

But they must have been a bit repetitive, because the young man who served me in the pharmacy said, ‘If they play Brown-eyed Girl one more time I’ll end up braining them.’

Admittedly It was getting late in the day.

That was the only time I have heard anyone complain about the Pre-Muster Party.

The organisers are to be congratulated on reviving it this year and it is to be hoped that the community will reward their efforts by turning out in numbers to enjoy it.

Mervyn Welch,

The Palms.
