Two months in the Gympie calendar get my pulse rate up— May and August.
In May it is the Gympie Show, the special local event that puts the community on show and brings it together.
August, of course, puts Gympie on the national stage with the now iconic Gympie Music Muster.
Having missed the Muster for a few years — and then there was Covid— I returned last year to find it even more exciting than I’d remembered.
And this year’s Muster promises to be a cracker too.
There is an extensive line-up of country music superstars headed by Lee Kernigan, Graeme Connors, Becky Cole, and Casey Barnes – the list goes on and on and includes many talented young artists.
Venues such as The Crow Bar, The Blues Bar, and The Muster Club will feature bands that will have musterers tapping their feet for four fantastic days and nights.
If you are into dancing or would like to make a start, you can enjoy line dancing, rock and roll, and clogging, all with excellent comperes (and) teachers to enhance the experience.
And, if you have missed a few Musters, you will be surprised at both the diversity of entertainment and the expansion of hospitality venues.
I particularly enjoyed the rodeo and equestrian exhibitions in the Newgen Muster Arena, and seeing hundreds of kids, many with painted faces, having the time of their lives in Gympie Mazda Kids Country.
The Muster is truly a family-friendly environment.
And best of all the Muster, run by the Gympie Apex Club and an army of volunteers, raises funds for charity and community groups.
In these tough times it deserves as much support as our community can give it.
