Queenslander Spirit

I want to congratulate the Queensland Womens’ Rugby League team on their extraordinary and very brave win over their NSW rivals in Newcastle [recently].

I must admit to the old-fashioned view that rough contact sports such as rugby league should not be played by women.

But somehow I was drawn to watch the match which was played in pouring rain.

Outweighed, outpaced, and outgunned in most departments, the Queensland team fought back in the second half to snatch an unlikely victory.

Tied at 10 points all till the dying minutes, the game was won 11 to 10 courtesy of a dropped goal from 40 metres out with a ball so wet that it probably weighed half a kilo.

It was a fitting reward for eighty minutes of sheer courage and determination.

Once again, my admiration and congratulations.
