Rally victim of hard times

The planned car rally to raise funds for Veterans in need, the Battle for Australia Tour, has been cancelled.

We fell victim to the current cost-of-living crisis that is pervading every bit of our lives.

Although we had many who were keen willing to support us, when it came time to pay, there were insufficient starters to make the rally viable.

While it is a shame, our planning did highlight a lot of community spirit.

All those who requested it have had their donated monies returned.

Of the remainder, over $8000 has been handed over to the RSL Veterans Service Centre.

The generosity of people and businesses certainly make us humble and proud at the same time.

McClintocks Transport, Anywhere Auto Electrics, Direct Chemist Outlet, Sean Connelly, Jim and Joan Gordon, are among those who selflessly allowed us to forward their sponsorship to a grateful RSL.

I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

Maybe next year the RSL will decide to have another go.

The format was right, the planning was right and all contacts are in place.

We just need the economy to pick up.

It has been an interesting journey and I sincerely thank Gympie Today for their support, who again showed their community credentials.

Thank you.

– David Collins, Rally Coordinator
