A dingo by any other name…

Boolomo, Dwer-da, Kal, Karpany, Maliki, Miri, Mirigung, Noggum, Papa-inura, Wantibirri, Wangoo and Joogoong.

Our local tribe, Butchulla, the name for camp dingo was wat-dha and for wild dingo was wongari.

I really embrace our aboriginal brothers and sisters, however, throughout this great continent, there were close to 500 different peoples, each with their own language and territory and usually made up of a large number of tribes.

Australia wide we are all schooled in the English language and in respect to the both cultures, would it not be more acceptable to write articles regarding place names as follows: ’ Watch out for the dingo (wongari), when driving on Fraser Island (K’Gari)’.

Whatever tribe you are representing, state the appropriate name.

Stop dividing us, let’s move forward together with respect for all cultures.
