The holiday season can be quite the intoxicating time of year, with Christmas celebrations and New Years quickly to follow, it’s no wonder police have made their presence more known.
On 2 January, I was random breath tested on Brisbane Road at around 7.30am, and passed many speeding camera vans parked alongside the Bruce Highway on my way up from the Sunshine Coast.
And it’s no wonder, as 299 Queenslander’s lost their lives on the road in 2022.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said it was the worst year since 2012, and speeding, drink/drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, distraction and fatigue contributed to the majority of fatalities.
It’s time to “slow down stupid“ and “be a thinker not a drinker“ on the roads, and aim for less fatalities in 2023.
