A flood alert for the Mary River was lifted on Monday morning after minor flooding and extreme rainfall on Saturday afternoon 12 April.

Bureau of Meteorology records show Gympie received more than 55mm of rain in three hours of serious downpour and storms between about 4.30pm and 7.25pm, but some spots received a lot more than that.

One Victory Heights resident had 73mm in her gauge on Sunday morning, while another nearby reported 105mm near Gympie High School.

One Red Hill resident reported 100mm, as did another at Southside.

Rainfall totals of 50 to 114 mm were recorded across the Upper Mary River catchment during Saturday. This has caused river level rises and near minor flooding at Gympie.

The BoM reported that the Mary River had peaked at 5.81m around 8pm Sunday, just below the minor flood level of 6m.

On Monday morning it was 4.51m and dropping, as the weather eased.

Further but much less dramatic falls were recorded at Gympie later Saturday night and through parts of Sunday.

Rainfall totals of 50 to 114 mm were recorded across the Upper Mary River catchment during Saturday, the bureau advised.

This caused river level rises and the near minor flooding at Gympie.

Lighter rain early in the week was not enough to overwhelm the Mary River’s ability to drain the region.

Official readings were 5.8mm on Monday and another 5.8mm on Tuesday, the bureau said.

After recent flooding inundated the Touch grounds and parts of Nelson Reserve, lifting of the weekend warning was a substantial relief.
