100+ new nurses and midwives

Gympie will be receiving it’s share in 105 registered nurses and 18 midwives that will be starting in graduate positions in the coming weeks.

The new nurses and midwives will be working at facilities across the region including Gympie Hospital as well as Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Nambour General Hospital and Caloundra Health Service.

They spent time at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital learning the ropes last week on Monday, 19 February, before they continue on to their graduate positions very soon.

The graduates undertook and completed their orientation on Monday, 19 February, before they go on to complete hospital-specific training over the next two weeks.

Sunshine Coast Health is excited to welcome the new graduates and believe that the nurses will contribute to providing excellent care to the Sunshine Coast and Gympie community in medical, surgery and a variety of specialties when they take to the wards in coming weeks.

“They have to go through quite a competitive process to even be employed.” said Graduate Coordinator Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service Amanda Naumann.

“So they do medication safety, they do clinical prioritization and time management.

“They do patient assessment workshops and they do some IMR online training around documentation, communication and patient centred care.

“They are the future of the workforce for us here on the Sunshine Coast, we know that in the next five to ten years we have a large retirement age of our nurses and midwives, it is really important to build our future nurses.”
