What’s on around the region this week?

With the school holidays already in full swing, we’ve added in kid-friendly, free activities around the region. These are denoted by asterisks beside the listing title.

FRIDAY 1 December

Rainbow Beach Art Group

Join us at 10am at the Rainbow Beach Library for a fantastic morning of fun and creativity. Each session covers something different, with the aim of exploring different styles of art. Night Market

The Gympie Night Market has a great selection of locally sourced and hand made produce and products and services, live music and food vendors on offer. Proceeds will be going towards funding a Gympie neighbourhood centre for vulnerable people. AA Zoom Meetings

Gympie hosts the Gympie Goldfields Friday night zoom meetings at 7pm. Connect via the aa.org.au website and click on Online Meetings, or contact Andrew on 0491 646 598 for help with connecting via a device or mobile phone.

*Tinker Table @ Gympie Library*

Drop in between 3.30-4.30pm to take part in some fun activities that are all based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths). No bookings are required but space is limited. Suitable for ages 5-12 years.

Sewing Machine Introduction

Drop into the Gympie Library on the first Friday of every month at 10am to learn how to get started with machine sewing. Join in the fun with this interactive workshop to learn more about and practice the basic techniques you need to operate our sewing machines and overlockers. SATURDAY 2 December

Glenwood Community Resilience Network Open Mike Night

Head along to the Glenwood Community Hall between 2-9pm at 13 Pepper Rd, Glenwood for the GCRN’s last event for the year. Performing is not mandatory, but come out and support those who want to be on stage. Plus there will be information tents on storm and bushfire season, so you can get trusted advice on how to get ready for wilder weather. Cover Letters and Resumes

This session at the Gympie Library from 9.30-11.30am covers how to write a cover letter and a resume, but with a digital edge. It provides best practice tips for writing a cover letter and a resume when applying for jobs and gives participants a sense of the digital tools they can use to stand out from the crowd. Long Flat Dance

Widgee Markets

Head along to the Widgee Markets, to help out Koala Action Gympie Region and ANARRA with their fundraising at the Widgee Memorial Hall. This market is run on the first Saturday from 7am-midday. For more information phone 0421 545 977.

Dagun Markets

Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance Lesson

A unique opportunity is coming up at Mothar Mountain Hall—a complimentary dance lesson in Rock ‘n Roll, followed by a free afternoon of live music by the Mothar Mountaineers. *First Five Forever Storytime*

Head to the Gympie Library between 9.30-10am each week for an enjoyable session of stories with an emphasis on fun! This is an interactive program for pre-schoolers and is suitable for ages 3-5 years.

Gympie Library Craft Group

Come and share your current project at 10am with our Gympie Library Craft Group. Bring along a piece you’re working on – be it knitting, sewing, crochet or cross stitch – and share ideas and learn with other craft-minded people. There’s no leader and no pressure; you can work, watch, or simply enjoy a friendly chat.

Gympie Bowls Club Bingo

Gympie Library Card and Board Game Group

From 10am, join in the fun with a game of cards, scrabble, chess, backgammon and more. Play all your favourites or try something new.

Gympie QCWA

The Gympie QCWA get together to meet every Wednesday. But, depending which week it is, it will be either a Meeting (1st), Craft Day (2nd and 4th) or Coffee Date (3rd). If the month contains a Fifth Wednesday, catch up with the ladies to finish your UFOs or Unfinished Objects. There are also other chapters around the Gympie region that meet on different days. U3A Gympie

U3A Gympie is a community organisation that promotes healthy aging through the sharing of educational, creative and leisure activities. There will be lots of interesting and informative classes. You can learn to sing, speak another language or even write a novel. Slow down with Yoga and Tai Chi. Or slim down with Aqua Aerobics and Zumba. New and continuing members are invited to sign on at the new U3A Office located in the Reg English Tennis Centre, 35 Cartwright Road.
