With the school holidays already in full swing, we’ve added in kid-friendly, free activities around the region. These are denoted by asterisks beside the listing title.

FRIDAY 24 November

Last Friday Social Club – Mosaic Coasters

Mosaic Coasters are a simple mosaic project, which are not only perfect for beginners but a great piece of functional mosaic art. Your friends will be impressed with the gorgeous tableware you handmade at the Gympie Library in this one hour session, starting at 10am. Bookings are essential at www.library.gympie.qld.gov.au.

Quota Morning Tea

Feeling a bit lonely? Ladies are welcome to a free chit-chat and coffee at the Museum Cafe hosted by Quota ladies every fourth Friday of the month from 9.30am to 11am. For further information contact Heather on 5482 5235 or Noela on 5482 3206.

Laser Engraver Introduction

The Emblazer Laser machine is used for the precision engraving and cutting of wood and other materials. This training session at the Gympie Library on the fourth Friday of every month at 10am will guide you through basic operating procedures, software, and safety precautions for successful use of the machine. Spaces are limited so booking is essential. To reserve your place, visit the website or phone the library on 5481 0859.

Tinny Chat

Pop along to the Tin Can Bay Library on the fourth Friday of every month from 2pm-4pm and join other locals for a cuppa and a chat.

AA Zoom Meetings

Gympie hosts the Gympie Goldfields Friday night zoom meetings at 7pm. Connect via the aa.org.au website and click on Online Meetings, or contact Andrew on 0491 646 598 for help with connecting via a device or mobile phone.

SATURDAY 25 November

Long Flat Dance

The Learner Dance Group Old Time Dance will be held at Long Flat Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Entertainment will be by the band Cascade. Entry is $10 per person, bring your own supper. Enquiries to Bruce on 0427 967 568 and Janet on 0419 824 317.

Christmas in Cedar Pocket

The Cedar Pocket Hall is having a community Christmas Event sure to delight every member of the family. There will be a free movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, free jumping castle, free face painting, free Christmas crafts, market stalls, food and more. Other local groups will be participating in the event to raise funds for their respective organisations such as the Cedar Pocket/Greens Creek Rural Fire Brigade, Cedar Pocket CWA and the Nashville Scout Group among others. Christmas Arts and Crafts Market

Don’t miss the Chatsworth Hall Christmas Arts and Crafts Market for a chance to get some unique Christmas gifts. The Hall is located just up from the Chatsworth School on Rammutt and Allen Roads. There will be artists and craftspeople selling their wares, along with plants and other interesting goodies. Take a few minutes to see a special demonstration of how to make bark pictures. Amamoor Markets

Amamoor Alive Markets are on from 8am – to midday at the Amamoor Station every Saturday. Handcrafted goods and local produce on offer. Phone 0429 555 485 for more information.

Dagun Markets

Don’t miss the Dagun Growers Market at the Railway Station in Kimlin Lane, between 3pm and dusk every Saturday. There you’ll find all the finest produce the Mary Valley has to offer. For more information call 0459 225 399.

MONDAY 27 November

*First Five Forever Storytime*

Head to the Gympie Library between 9.30-10am each week for an enjoyable session of stories with an emphasis on fun! This is an interactive program for pre-schoolers and is suitable for ages 3-5 years.

Gympie Library Craft Group

Come and share your current project at 10am with our Gympie Library Craft Group. Bring along a piece you’re working on – be it knitting, sewing, crochet or cross stitch – and share ideas and learn with other craft-minded people. There’s no leader and no pressure; you can work, watch, or simply enjoy a friendly chat.

Gympie Bowls Club Bingo

If you have always wanted to try Bingo and meet some very nice people on Monday mornings, starting at 9am, you would be very welcome and we would assist you if required. Morning tea is provided. Student’s Fun Tennis

Between 9.30-10am Gympie Library is the place to be for Baby Bounce, an interactive session aimed at babies from 0-1 years and their caregivers. Come along and meet other parents and babies for a fun session of nursery rhymes, finger plays and songs.

Cooloola Card-Makers @ Tin Can Bay

At the Tin Can Bay Library from 9.30am they make all sorts of greeting cards, so come and join us for a fun morning. Make and take your card creations. Beginners and experienced card-makers welcome. Join this friendly group and let your creative juices flow.

Gympie Library Card and Board Game Group

From 10am, join in the fun with a game of cards, scrabble, chess, backgammon and more. Play all your favourites or try something new.

Gympie QCWA

The Gympie QCWA get together to meet every Wednesday. But, depending which week it is, it will be either a Meeting (1st), Craft Day (2nd and 4th) or Coffee Date (3rd). If the month contains a Fifth Wednesday, catch up with the ladies to finish your UFOs or Unfinished Objects. There are also other chapters around the Gympie region that meet on different days. U3A Gympie is a community organisation that promotes healthy aging through the sharing of educational, creative and leisure activities. There will be lots of interesting and informative classes. You can learn to sing, speak another language or even write a novel. Slow down with Yoga and Tai Chi. Or slim down with Aqua Aerobics and Zumba. New and continuing members are invited to sign on at the new U3A Office located in the Reg English Tennis Centre, 35 Cartwright Road.
