Highs and lows of local club

The Lions Club of Gympie had a mixed year in 2022 but fortunately the “highs” far outweighed the “lows” according to Club President Glenn Williams.

The Club has been busy with its fundraising and community activities throughout ’22, which has included the Lions Op Shop, Sausage Sizzles, Christmas Cake Sales, Community Morning Teas, Little Kids Day Out, Driver Reviver, Mint Sales, Spectacle Collection and assisting South Lions at the Muster just to mention a few. A low point occurred in May when the Gympie Show, where the Club operates a food van, was washed out and impacted on one of the Club’s major fundraisers.

One very important “high” point has been that the Club has recruited a number of new members during the year that quickly settled into and took part in Club activities. New members are always welcomed warmly.

The Lions Club of Gympie actively supports many local groups and has provided extra support to many of them by way of cash grants following the devastating floods that wreaked havoc on their facilities. They included Albert Park Bowls Club, Gympie District Historical Society, Gympie Cats Football Club, Gympie Recreation Association, Gympie Gem Club, Gympie Regional Cricket Association and Gympie United Football Club.

Additionally the Club is a major supporter of Gympie Medical Transport and also provides support to the local Secondary Schools Award Nights, Legacy, Meals on Wheels, Gympie Senior Citizens Centre, St Vinnies, Gympie Show Society, Robins Roses (Project Lynas), Riding For the Disabled, Community Bus, Little Haven, Wishlist, Gympie Volunteer First Aid Group and Lake Borumba Fish Stocking Association.

The Club also supports a number of the Lions Australian and International causes with donations.

Mr Williams said that the Lions Organisation is very active in the Gympie Community and that anyone interested in serving their community as Lions Members can contact Gympie Lions by email on gympielions@gmail.com or by phoning 0427276933.
