The motto for the Off Grid Lifestyle Expo is “An old way of living – a new way of thinking“ and at the Goomeri showgrounds last weekend, people from all over the country showed up to see what it was all about.

Despite the 50mls of rain Friday evening that drenched the showgrounds, that didn’t stop exhibitors from setting up their sites in anticipation for attendees.

Off Grid Lifestyle Expo event organiser Di Woodstock said the first visitor arrived at 7.34am on Saturday.

“He had driven for eight hours to meet a friend and to attend the Expo,“ she said.

“We had a family fly in from Tasmania and another family came from mid New South Wales.

“Many people mentioned that they attended the event at Imbil last year and enjoyed themselves so much, they ventured along to Goomeri this year too.“

The Off Grid Expo is a showcase of businesses and products that can help people to not be dependent on everyday utilities such as gas, electricity, town water and sewerage.

Sustainability is also a key feature in living off the grid, with the Covid pandemic putting panic buying in the spotlight and highlighting the population’s reliance on big companies.

Everything from environmentally friendly clothing to solar charged battery scooters were available for people to view and chat to the stallholders about.

“The feedback from many of our vendors was that they met amazing people who wanted to interact, and many purchases were made over the weekend,” she said.

As they were leaving the Expo, many also said how excited they were for next year’s event.

The small committee of four that helped to being the Expo into fruition are already eagerly planning for next year in September.
