New shared Tin Can Bay boardwalk a winner

Locals and tourists have tried out the new million-dollar Tin Can Bay Boardwalk over the school holidays and have given it the thumbs up.

The Cod Street to Norman Point shared boardwalk project built by Roman Contractors for Gympie Regional Council was open for use over Easter with the stunning walkway meandering along beside the waters of Tin Can Bay enjoying the natural flora of the region.

Council has been progressively upgrading the pedestrian walkway along the Tin Can Bay foreshore to a shared pathway standard, with works also completed between Crab Creek and Oyster Parade.

The funding for this project is through Building our Regions round five for a shared concrete pathway between Oyster Parade and Cod Street and a shared boardwalk between Cod Street and Norman Point.

The boardwalk will complete the off-road shared pathway link between Crab Creek and Norman point for pedestrian and cyclists.

Council required that the successful contractor be suitably experienced in vegetation clearing, elevated boardwalk construction and concrete works.

The boardwalk will now become a destination for travellers who are seeking walking tracks designed to be enjoyed by everyone, from families with small children in strollers and visitors with limited walking abilities or who use wheelchairs.
