Snapping good year ahead

2022 is here and Gympie Camera Club is full of positive thoughts heading into the year ahead.

The club has a new president for 2022. Richard Bassett is an energetic and active member and eager to help; along with his committee they will continue to build the club into the future to be a happy place, a place for meeting others and enjoying the love of photography sharing with its members.

We start the year with a big thank you to the Gympie Council for making it possible for the Gympie Camera Club and the Woodworkers Club to have a well needed shared new bitumen carpark. This is a real blessing to both clubs and greatly appreciated by all our members and visitors, no more muddy feet when it rains. We thank you!

The club calendar is almost finished for the year, filled with activities for all to enjoy and learn from, if you are a beginner or a well accomplished photographer. There is always opportunity for those that can to pass on your own knowledge tips and tricks to share with others wanting to learn more. It is going to be a good year.

Members enjoyed a photography filled weekend away in Brisbane in early January. Time spent participating in a Street Photography workshop guided by Peter and Elayne Mitchelson, who gives their all to share their skill in this area of photography, was the making for a wonderful weekend of learning.

To kick off the year our February Competition was all about Silhouette Images. Images were not only of the popular sunrise/sunsets as members opened the imagination to different ideas of creativity and lighting. The judge on the night was Hans Schmidt from Maryborough. Hans is an accredited Photographic Society of Queensland judge and enjoyed being given the opportunity to critique and view members work. We do appreciate judges giving of their time to come to the club every month and judge as we are still in very difficult times.

February Practical night is to be all about Portraiture. Learning and understanding composition, lighting and the many does and don’ts involved in the art of making a good Portrait image.

March is shaping up to be a good month with Competition Subjects of People/Portrait and Open. Practical night is going to be lots of fun filled Light Painting. A very creative club member will be showing many skills in this area. We are also looking forward to a Friendship Day with Caloundra Camera Group meeting at Wappa Dam. There will be a photo hunt, lunch/cuppa and lots of time to meet, chat and talk photography with other likeminded photographers.

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them,“ Elliott Erwitt.

Thinking you would like to join our group in 2022 and improve your photography and make new friends you can find us in our air conditioned Clubhouse at 39 Saleyard Road[behind the woodworkers club] Our meetings are the first Tuesday and third Monday of the Month, meetings start 7.00pm SHARP. We would love to see you there.

We are not teachers of Photography but are a group of photography lovers who are always learning and discovering new things, happy to share our knowledge with you and others. So see you there!
