Open letter asks for hall help

Dear Residents

After close to ten years as secretary, I am sending out an SOS to the local community seeking volunteers to be a member of the Long Flat Hall Committee.

We survived COVID, but the sad fact of life is that age-related problems mean it is time for some of our members to retire and new members to continue the committee’s legacy.

Volunteering gives a great sense of satisfaction, and you meet like-minded people.

Our management committee also allows you to help the community with help from the Gympie Regional Council in the form of grants, advice, etc.

BACKGROUND:

Long Flat Community Hall was opened in August 1893, and has always been an important part of the community.

Community functions such as meetings, community gatherings, and dancing are essential for community communication and well-being.

The hall is also available for private event hire.

Many friendships were formed at Long Flat Hall gatherings, and many a couple met their future partner on the dance floor.

MEET AND GREET:

We are having a meet and greet at the Long Flat Hall on Friday, 6 February 2026, at 6.30pm at the hall, located on the Mary Valley Highway at Long Flat.

Please bring either a salad or a sweet to share; the committee is providing meat, bread rolls, etc.

RSVP is required (for catering purposes) to either Lyn on 0421 198 074 or Will on 0419 022 226.

We will also be holding the Long Flat Hall Committee AGM on 20 February at 7pm.

Cr Gordon Maudsley is kindly doing the letter drop for the committee.

Many thanks, Gordon; the Long Flat Hall Committee greatly appreciates your efforts.

Looking forward to sharing fellowship with our community.

Kind regards,

Lyn Cammack,

Secretary, Long Flat Hall Committee.
