On Monday, 24 November, out here in Wolvi, we were hammered by a massive storm, with winds reaching 170km an hour.
A huge gum tree blocked our road, which took the council until 11am to give access to the people on Ryan Road.
Luckily, there was no medical emergency. Not good enough.
Power lines came down.
From Wolvi to Goomboorian, hundreds were without power, and we all lost our food.
The Mayor of Noosa declared a disaster area right up to Kin Kin, which is just behind us in Wolvi.
A disaster area should have been declared, as the extent of the damage was significant.
Werner Dinslage,
Wolvi.
Addendum:
The men who work for the council are fantastic; they have done great work out here in the past. The problem is the works department hierarchy and supervisors.
ED NOTE: Wolvi is among the other areas affected by this storm, which have since been offered disaster assistance funding.
