Strong competition at market

A large offering of 2219 cattle at Sullivan Livestock’s Gympie Cattle Sale held Monday 28 April, where the market for all descriptions met strong competition.

Cattle were drawn from Gin Gin, Bundaberg, Brooweena, Boompa, Tansey, Goomeri, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Kenilworth, Maleny and all local areas.

Heavy Brangus feeder steers from Wilrose Pty Ltd “Netherby” sold for $3.84 ($1,923 and; $1,648) while their lighter brothers made $3.84 ($1,468 and $1,397) and $3.78 ($1,402 and $1,380).

Riversleigh Past Co. sold Charolais x steers for $3.90 ($1,755 and $1,683).

Charbray steers from Baneda Pastoral, Conondale made $3.90 ($1,690).

Limousin x steers from Barry Hiron, Sexton sold for $3.88 to return $1,863.

Charbray x steers from Mick Seeney, Kandanga sold for $3.82 ($1,605).

Brangus steers 16 months from Noosa State High School made $3.92 to return $1,576 and $1,460.

Charbray steers from the Triechel Brothers, Calico Creek made $4.14 ($1,333).

Quality Charbray weaner steers from the Davies family, Woolooga sold for $4.44 ($1,388) and $4.60 ($1,251) while their Santa x brothers made $4.26 ($1,318). The Pretorius family, Bergins Pocket sold Charbray weaner steers for $4.72 ($1,432).

Charbray steers from T Siedofski, Kandanga made $4.66 ($1,210 and $991).

Simmental x steers from J and H McMillan “Nargoon” Cinnabar made $4.52 ($1,004).

Quality Droughtmaster steers from Westonvale Livestock, Glastonbury sold to a top of $4.24 to return $1,293, $1,270 and $1,128.

Dave and Elizabeth Allomes, Miva Homestead sold Droughtmaster steers for $4.36 ($1,248, $1,152 and $1,095 and $986).

Generally better-quality weaner steers sold for $4.00 to $4.60.

Charbray heifers 18 months from Mick Seeney, Kandanga made $3.38 ($1,342).

Charbray heifers from T Siedofski, Kandanga made $3.36 ($1,223) and $3.42 ($1,203).

Heavy feeder heifers sold from $2.90 to $3.18. Charbray weaner heifers from The Davies Family made $3.44 ($1,039 and $970).

Charbray heifers from The Pretorius family made $3.42 ($911). Charbray heifers from T Siedofski, Kandanga made $3.52 ($718).

Droughtmaster heifers from Miva Homestead sold to a top of $3.54 to return $777, $701 and $603.

Droughtmaster heifers from the Reithmuller Family, Tiaro made $3.30 ($720). Better quality weaner heifers generally sold from $3.10 to $3.50.

Heifers to processors sold from $2.80 to $3.15.

Cows and calves limited in supply and sold to a top of $1,875.

Next sale is on Monday 12 May.

Biggenden

Burnett Livestock and Realty’s Biggenden Meatworks and Store Sale on Thursday, 24 April 2025, saw a yarding of 2032 head.

Cattle were drawn from Duaringa, Theodore, Chinchilla, Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Redgate, Windera, Curra, Tiaro, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Gin Gin, Miriam Vale, Brooweena and all local areas.

Big frame Simmental cross cows and calves from Gin Gin sold for $2075.

Brangus cross cows and calves from Bundaberg sold for $1500.

Charbray cross cows and calves from Woodgate sold for $1475.

Four and six tooth Droughtmaster bullocks from Tiaro sold for 360c/$2261.

Two tooth Brangus bullocks from Gin Gin sold for 360c/$2125.

Two and four tooth Simmental cross bullocks from Booyal sold for 344c/$2060.

Two and four tooth Braford heifers from Theodore sold for 332c/$1787.

A line of Droughtmaster Charbray cross milk tooth heifers from Theodore sold from 326-330c/$880-$1192.

Milk tooth Brangus heifers from Mundubbera sold for 336c/$1003.

Milk tooth Charolais cross heifers from Boompa sold for 338c/$873.

Not many weaner heifers yarded due to upcoming weaner sale, but the majority sold for 260-320c/kg.

Eidsvold

Eidsvold yarded 550 Liveweight Cattle and 29 x 29 Cows and Calves at the fortnightly sale held on Wednesday, 23 April, with prices remaining firm to stronger for most categories.

Heavy cows sold to a top of 324c/kg to average 285c/kg with a top of $2496 to average $1628.

Younger body Cows sold to 349c/kg to return a top of $1746 and average just under $1300 per head.

Heavy Bulls made a top of $3015 to average $2024.

A very large run of approximately 200 Meatworks Cattle were sold this week to a competitive market including a handful of Heavy Bullocks making a top of 335c/kg to average 327c/kg,

returning an average of $1788.

Feeder Steers sold extremely well with 400kg Steers reaching 410c/kg to return $1684.

A whole run of 400-500kg Steers averaged 390c/kg to return $1600.

Just under 100 Heifers in the 300-400kg category sold to a top of 344c/kg to return $1233 per head to average 304c/kg at $992 per head.

Weaner Steers topped at 452c/kg to return $1316 and average $1066 per head while the same

weight Heifers sold to 320c/kg to return $936 to average $670 per head.

Only a small yarding of both Weaner Steers and Heifers were presented with a mixed quality run, the better cattle selling firm to the rates of last sale.

Our next sale is Wednesday, 7 May, followed by the Tony Haupt Memorial Weaner Sale on Wednesday, 21 May, with some very good runs of Weaners booked.

Monto

KellCo Rural Agencies Monto Fortnightly Fat and Store Sale on Wednesday, 23 April, saw a yarding of 900 head this week with cattle drawn from Ubobo, Builyan, Miriam Vale, Moura, Thangool, Biloela, Wowan, Baralaba and all local areas.

A mixed quality yarding of export slaughter lines sold to solid demand but could not reach the highs of last sale.

A limited number of feeders sold firm, backgrounders and weaner steers were also firm to slightly easier.

All classes of heifers sold well and saw some improvement.
