The Bureau of Meteorology says impacts from Cyclone Alfred are expected to increase this evening.
The cyclone is still at Category 2, but is now moving even slower towards the coast, now moving at 7km/h.
Sustained winds near the centre are reported at 95km/h with wind gusts to 130km/h.
Destructive wind gusts to 155km/h are predicted in some places as Alfred’s destructive core approaches the coast.
Heavy rainfall may develop for southeast Queensland and northeastern New South Wales from tonight, with hevy to locally intense rainfall possibly leading to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding.
The next advice will be issued by 5pm, the BoM says.
