Cattle firm to dearer

Sullivan Livestock yarded 1594 cattle at their regular fortnightly Gympie Cattle Sale held Monday 17 February, where the market for all descriptions was firm to dearer.

Cattle were drawn from Mundubbera, Booubyjan, Dallarnil, Brooweena, Tansey, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Maryborough, Tiaro, Conondale, Kenilworth and all local areas.

Droughtmaster feeder steers from B Dale, Mungar made $3.80 to return $1786.

Charbray steers from C and S Sweet, Cootharaba sold for $3.88 ($1685).

Limousin x steers from the Hanson family made $3.80 to return $1562.

Droughtmaster steers from the McDonald family sold for $3.72 to return $1617 and $1608.

Brangus steers from the Webster family made $3.85 ($1575).

Quality Charbray steers 16 months from Noela Augustine, Mundubberra sold for $4.10 ($1625) and $4.26 ($1475).

Brangus steers from R and D Pender “Hidden Valley” sold for $4.30 ($1395).

Droughtmaster x steers from Kinbombi made $3.94 ($1194).

Droughtmaster x steers from Obi Obi made $3.92 ($1441) while their Simmental x younger brothers sold to a top of $4.40 ($1285).

The Binney family sold Simmental x steers for $4.62 to return $1236.

Generally better quality weaner steers sold from $4.20 to $4.62.

Quality F1 Charbray heifers from Noela Augustine made $3.26 to return $1312 and $1,131.

Limousin x heifers from the Hansen family made $2.96 ($1061).

The general run of feeder heifers sold from $2.80 to $2.95.

Weaner heifers topped at $3.22 with most heifers selling from $2.70 to $3.10.

Cows and Calves were limited in supply & sold to a top of $1900.

Murgon Market Report 11 February

Combined agents yarded 860 head on 11 February where all values remained fully firm on the previous sale.

The yarding consisted of approximately 250 meatworks cattle with the balance feeders and store cattle.

Heavy bulls topped at $2.95 and $2458.

Cows over 600kg topped at $2.94 and $1972, averaging $2.88 per kilo.

Cows 500 to 600kg sold to $2.77 and $1584.

Cows 400 to 500kg sold to $2.70 per kilo and $1319.

Export heifers sold to $3.25 per kilo and $1448.

Cattle were drawn from Mt Perry, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Proston, Nanango, Kingaroy and locally.

Droughtmaster cross steers 415kg from Coolabunia sold for $3.95c/kg to return $1639.

Charolais cross steers 475kg from Nanango sold for $3.86c/kg to return $1834.

Two pens of Charolais steers from Kingaroy sold to $4.08c/kg to return $1374.

Limousin cross steers 340kg from Hivesville sold to $3.96c/kg to return $1347.

Charbray steers 292kg from Manyung sold to $4.28c/kg to return $1254.

Charbray steers 241kg from Mt Perry sold to $4.48c/kg to return $1083.

Brangus steers 279kg from Mt Perry sold to $4.33c/kg to return $1209.

Limousin cross heifers 245kg from Hivesville sold to $3.40c/kg to return $833.

Simmental cross heifers 262kg sold to $3.34c/kg to return $877.

Santa heifers 290kg from Barambah sold to $3.25c/kg to return $944.

Kellco Rural Agencies Fortnightly Fat and Store sale yarded 1046 head last week on 12 February.

Cattle were drawn from Jambin, Goovigen, Thangool, Biloela, Mt Perry, Boyne Valley, Eidsvold, Kalpowar and all local areas.

Most classes sold to strong demand with export slaughter lines seeing the most improvement.

Feeder steer and backgrounder steers all sold firm on last sales rates.

Feeder heifers were slightly softer while weaner heifers were fully firm for quality penned.
