I have just analysed a Level 3 My Aged Care package for a recipient and the costs some providers charge is staggering.
There are fees for everything as well as significant loadings onto the actual wages paid.
By moving to a self-managed provider this person has saved $11,926.00 per year in fees and charges compared to the fully managed package costs of his previous provider.
This ‘saving’ has allowed him to access additional services without the need for a reassessment by My Aged Care.
This is a win for the recipient and a win for the government as they do not need to subsidise the recipient at a higher level.
This alternative to the more expensive providers allows the My Aged Care package recipient to choose who they want to care for them, do their gardening, take them to medical appointments, etc and there is a set cost of between 13 per cent and 14 per cent of the total package fees.
It does require a little effort to set up in the first instance but it is certainly worth the effort.
