Community’s conflicted interest

Are councillors meant to be a part of the community or not?

Community organisations are the lifeblood of Gympie but if our representatives join them, according to the state government, it is a conflict of interest.

They lose the ability to vote on matters that affect the sections of community they represent and the organisations they believe in.

If they are not a part of these community groups, how can they truly represent us?

Only two councillors could vote to accept the insurance funding for two halls at the last meeting, every other councillor was involved with their local hall.

This should be a given.

Halls are a staple of our regional community, yet our representatives are expected to leave them by the wayside if they want to be able to represent us.

If you are a councillor you should be involved, but is this allowed?
