I have been getting the Gympie Today paper home delivered.
I am really pleased I made this decision as I am rather restricted with my mobility these days and it keeps me in touch with events around town and what is happening locally, plus of course all the current news.
I wanted to congratulate you on your Gympie Flows Forward series of articles over two years from 24 February, 2022 to 9 February, 2024.
It’s hard to believe two years have gone by since the devastating floods of 2022!
I think the articles were really well worth including and your final summary provides a concise historical account covering many different aspects of how the flooding affected individual people such as myself and the challenges local businesses faced to keep their livelihoods.
It was also great to see all those who helped in some way by their donations, grants, and providing flood recovery armies recognised for their efforts.
Yes, I feel the scars of the event are still with me, but moving on was always the only option.
I also would like to say how much I personally enjoy reading the regular On the Land articles by Erle Levey.
I am astonished at how much research and effort goes into these – with wonderful supporting photos – and I am often in awe when I read of those inspiring people within and around our region who are absolutely passionate about their lifestyles and properties and what they achieve on them, whether this be growing food, herbs, or raising animals.
The personalities of the people interviewed are really ‘brought to life’ and the true essence of what they do is captured so lucidly that I often feel as if I have met them in person and visited their farms/properties to experience firsthand all the associated sights, sounds, and smells after reading about them.
Well done to all the team of Gympie Today for producing such a great local paper… recipes, TV guide, property magazine, diary of events, sports, news … it’s all good!
All the best,
– Pauline Petrus
