Grand theft weekend

Businesses around Gympie have been affected by a crime spree undertaken across the region spanning Noosa to Curra across last weekend 23-24 March.

The thief was caught on CCTV where he got into a Ute and reversed it through the roller doors of a car yard in Gympie.

Duncan Cooper from Madills Motor Group told reporters from 7news that he believed it was one person who broke in by smashing the front door of the dealership and searched through the premises to find safes.

Police believe the crime spree started in Noosa where a vehicle was stolen from Madills Used Cars.

“The vehicle stolen from Noosa was located in the Mary River on Saturday night,” Gympie Patrol Group Inspector Brad Inskip told 7news reporters.

“If you do see the vehicles, please don’t approach the people in those vehicles, please call 000.”

On Saturday, the keys to a third car were taken in Curra, where the thief stole the car whilst the pregnant owner was still at home.

The thief was later spotted in the same vehicle but with different plates at the Goomboorian Liberty.

Camera footage showed the offender fueling up the vehicle before driving off without paying.

Afterwards, the vehicle was spotted yet again speeding away from the drive-through of Gympie BWS.

At the time of reports, The black Nissan Patrol and White Mitsubishi Triton had yet to be found.
