This weekend the National Science Week Forum, ‘Exploring STEM in the Mary River’ kicks off at Mimburi, Belli Park and one of the subjects to be studied is the South East’s propensity for flooding.
It will be a jam-packed program bringing together professionals, educators, students and organisations interested in promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, with a focus on the fascinating ecosystem and threatened species of the Mary River.
The event will feature Dr Margaret Cook, Research Fellow at the Australian Rivers Institute, Environmental Historian and author of a River with a City Problem, which examines south east Queensland’s history of flooding.
Other presentations throughout the day will fill you in on some of the latest resource management techniques including drone surveying for koalas, eDNA monitoring, the tiny creatures at the bottom of the food chain and the adventures of water in our landscape.
Numbers are strictly limited and bookings essential.
