Gympie State Emergency Service (SES) were awarded $20,000 recently from Domino’s Gympie as part of a store grant program funded by Domino’s charity, Give for Good.
Domino’s Gympie also provided volunteers food during the evacuation of businesses ahead of the 2022 February floods and helped to feed people at evacuation centres, stranded motorists and more during the event.
The grant will go towards funding an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) to enhance the capability of the volunteer unit, providing access to areas that are hard to reach.
Local owner of Domino’s Gympie Brad McCartin said Gympie SES was a worthy recipient of the grant.
“Domino’s Gympie have a strong longstanding relationship with Gympie SES, supplying pizzas when volunteers spend long hours assisting our community,” he said.
“We have seen significant emergencies across our region recently, including a big flood event, in which an asset like the ATV would have been useful.”
Deputy group leader of Goomeri SES, Ms Gayle McEwan expressed their gratitude at receiving the $20,000 grant.
“Our strong volunteer unit spend many hours a year responding to calls for help from our community,” Ms McEwan said.
“This specialist vehicle will help us respond faster to areas that are inaccessible by traditional vehicles.
“We see this as a significant enhancement to our capability to support our community and we thank Give for Good and Domino’s for their ongoing support.”
This store grant is one of seven awarded from $137,000 raised on Domino’s for Good Day held in February this year.
Give for Good is a registered charity of Domino’s, founded on giving to causes that align with values that are at the heart of our business – youth, community and disaster relief.
