Infamous pothole plugged

Another flood recovery win under Gympie Regional Council’s belt is the much-anticipated Maudsley Street Flood Betterment Project which was recently completed.

Maudsley Street suffered significant damage in January, 2022, and a witness reports up to 85 per cent of the town lost access to their water supply as a result.

Now, 18 months later, the project has been completed with delays the result of State government bureaucracy.

“Crews have worked hard to complete the flood repairs to Maudsley Street after receiving the green light from the state in March of this year,“ said Gympie Regional Council Deputy Mayor and Divisional Councillor, Hilary Smerdon.

“We acknowledge the timeline it’s taken to fix the road, but we didn’t want a situation where we do a patch job and have to constantly go back to refix.

“It’s about betterment works and getting it done right.

“I’d like to thank the community for their patience while council navigated the process involved in fixing this road,’ he said.

Crews have also mobilised at Curra Estate Road, the first road of 24 on the GRC’s first Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements Construction Package.

In March 2023, Gympie Regional Council endorsed the contract award for Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements Construction Package 01 and marked the first contract awarded in the restoration phase of recovery works.

The Phase 1 of the $10 million construction package, jointly funded by commonwealth and state Disaster Recovery Funding, is expected to take just over a year to complete and will cover roads right across the region.

These will include:

* Abel Road,

* Booubyjan Road,

* Cinnabar Road,

* Cedar Pocket Road,

* Curra Estate Road,

* East Deep Creek Road,

* Eel Creek Road, Gap Road,

* Glen Echo Road,

* Goomeri West Road,

* Harvey Road,

* Kinbombi Road,

* Lawson Road,

* Manumbar Road,

* Manyung Road,

* McIntosh Creek Road,

* Moy Pocket Road,

* Mudlo Road,

* Noosa Road,

* North Deep Creek Road,

* Power Road (Widgee),

* Rocks Road,
