Last Wednesday, in a Council Special Meeting, Gympie Regional Councillors endorsed the contract award for Construction Package 01 – marking the first contract awarded in the restoration phase of council’s flood recovery works.
The contract is made up of two packages: REPA Package 2 and Western Roads Package 1.
REPA package 2 will focus on restoring 15 sealed roads within the region, with Western Roads Package 1 focusing on 11 priority roads out west.
The following roads (sealed sections) are included in REPA package 2; Cedar Pocket Road, Delray Road, East Deep Creek Road, Eel Creek Road, Gap Road, Lawson Road, McIntosh Creek Road, Moy Pocket Road, Noosa Road, North Deep Creek Road, O’Rourke’s Road, Rocks Road, Sandy Creek Road, Traveston Road and Curra Estate Road.
The following unsealed roads are included in Western Roads Package 1; Abel Road, Booubyjan Road, Cinnabar Road, Glen Echo Road, Goomeri West Road, Harvey Road, Kinbombi Road, Manumbar Road, Manyung Road, Mudlo Road and Power Road (Widgee).
Subject to the acceptance from the successful contractor, works are due to start late April commencing with Curra Estate Road.
“It’s a little over a year since the three flooding events that devastated our region, so it’s great to see some movement in this area,” said Gympie Mayor, Glen Hartwig.
“With eight packages lodged and a further seven in draft, it is expected that council will exceed 20 submissions.
“This contract is just one of many to come,” he said.
“I’d like to thank the staff for their hard work in getting this contract across the line.”
This contract is wholly funded by the jointly-funded commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
