November 4 2022 saw the 80th anniversary of HMAS Gympie. Ship’s Company of HMAS Gympie (J 238) signed the Royal Australian Navy Ensign and presented it to the mayor and citizens of the minesweeper’s namesake city on 3 January 1946. At the Anzac Day observance on 25 April 1988, the Mayor of Gympie, Alderman Joan Dodt, re-presented the flag together with a plaque bearing the names of the signatories. After undergoing conservation work, organised by Gympie RSLA Sub Branch, the Ensign has been returned to public display on 4 November 2022. The Ensign is now on proud display in Gympie RSL Club Nash Street foyer.
