Shed company breaking new ground

What could be more resilient than an Australian made steel shed? Well, what about the people that make it happen?

Come Covid and high flood water, the Shed Company Cooroy have battled it out against some truly unpredictable events.

But the main drive behind this determination, are managers Nigel Roberts and David Field, along with their hardworking team.

The store has been open since April 2018, and despite the challenges it’s faced, business is booming.

However, the Shed Company is now turning its attention to the Gympie region.

“The border for our area technically ends at half way between here and Gympie,” Nigel said.

“There’s been such a rush of people into the Gympie area because it’s more affordable.

“There’s a lot of construction and a lot of sheds and all sorts of stuff going on up there, and they’re probably a little overwhelmed.”

While selling sheds is, of course, a goal for the business, Nigel said in reality, the most important thing is helping out the community and insuring they get their needs met.

“Our guys, as much as they’re selling stuff, it’s about the process, it’s about helping people out,” he said.

“We’re not selling it because we need to sell it and line our pockets; we’re genuinely trying to help people out.

“They come to us with a problem and we solve it basically, and that’s quite rewarding in itself.”

Nigel said it’s extremely important to support local, because even though the steel for a shed might be cheaper in Brisbane or New South Wales, it helps the Shed Company to continue to serve the community.

“When somebody invests in our business to do their business, that money stays local and it just stays in the local economy,” he said.

“We’re more than just a brand, we’re more than just a shed company – we’re family.

“When you buy with us, it’s a feel good purchase.

“When you buy something Australian, it might cost you a little bit more but you know that you’re supporting a local business.”

All of their staff is from around the area, with around half of them travelling to Cooroy for work.

“I’ve got builders, concreters and office staff that are all Gympie based,” he said.

“I would say 50 per cent of our team is from the Gympie region.”

With figures like that, it’s no wonder Nigel and David are looking forward to knowing their Gympie neighbours a little better.
